I am not in a position to opine on the possible cause of the Air France catastrophe that is dominating today's headlines.
However, the the barrage of confident statements that modern airliners cannot be brought down by lightning and foul weather are curiously reminiscent of the claims that the Titanic was unsinkable.
Which accents the irony of Milvina Dean's passing on the same day.
In the end we can only pray for the lost passengers and their bereaved families.
