THE AMERICAN WAY


BANZAI7 NEWS--American Airlines said Monday it is raising its fees for passengers buying tickets starting Feb. 1.

The company said it is raising the charge for the first checked bag to $25 from $20 on flights in the U.S., Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands. A second checked bag will cost $35, up from $30.

Passengers will also be required to pay an up front fee for excess flight fuel and crew hotel accommodations. All except one of the on board toilets will  be converted to pay per flush for use. An automatic 15% service charge for cabin crew will also be applied. Passengers wanting to locate lost luggage will be required to pay a lost luggage search fee.  Life jackets and oxygen masks will remain free of charge for the time being.

The fees apply to passengers on the company's American Airlines,  American Eagle and American Connection flights.
