BANZAI7 NEWS--Microsoft Corp. challenged recommendations by European officials that people stop using its Internet Explorer browser because of a security hole that hackers exploited in the recent attack on Google Inc. and other companies.

In an unusual move, German and French agencies posted notices on their Web sites warning against using Internet Explorer and advising computer users to switch to alternatives.

In reponse the to the Microsoft challenge and backup data, European officials said: "Actually, Internet Explorer just plain sucks."
